The 6th edition of the Feroz Awards (Premios Feroz) in Spain has nominated Iranian director Asghar Farhadi’s ‘Everybody Knows’ in six categories.
The organizers announced that the film has been nominated for best dramatic film award, while its stars Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz received nominations in the best actor and best actress categories.
Barbara Lennie is nominated for the best supporting actress award and Eduard Fernández received nomination in the best supporting actor category.
‘Everybody Knows’ has also been nominated for the best movie trailer award.
Spanish drama ‘The Realm’ by Rodrigo Sorogoyen leads the nominations with ten nods. The film is followed by ‘Quién te cantará’ by Carlos Vermut with seven nominations and ‘Everybody Knows’ with six nods.
The film by Iranian Oscar-winning director has been shot entirely in Spanish language on the Iberian Peninsula.
It is about Laura who lives with her husband and children in Buenos Aires. When they return together at her native village in Spain for a family celebration, an unexpected event changes the course of their lives.
‘Everybody Knows’ is Farhadi’s second film shot outside Iran. In 2012, he directed ‘The Past’ in French language in Paris. ‘The Past’ brought its star, Berenice Bejo, the Palme d’Or for best actress in 2013.
The film has so far experienced several global film events, including the 71st Cannes Film Festival in France, the 36th Munich International Film festival in Germany, the 2018 Golden Apricot Film Festival in Armenia, the 2018 Toronto Film Festival in Canada, the 66th Melbourne International Film Festival in Australia, the 55th Antalya Film Festival in Turkey, the 25th Austin Film Festival in the US, the 2018 Lumière Film Festival in France, and the CineIran (Iranian Film Festival) in Canada.
‘Everybody Knows’ recently opened the 2018 International Film Festival of Kerala in India and has been nominated for eight awards at the 2019 Goya Awards in Spain. It has ranked among 10 highest-grossing Spanish films in 2018.
The Feroz Awards are Spain-based film awards created in November 2013 by Asociación de Informadores Cinematográficos de España (Spanish Cinematographic Informers Association).
It is considered as the Spanish equivalent to the Golden Globe Awards. The 2019 edition of the Feroz award ceremony is slated for January 19 in Bilbao.
